Home › Fridge filters › XWFE
GE refrigerators that use the XWFE take a genuine GE XWFE cartridge (or the GE WR17X33825 RFID bypass plug); non-GE filters trigger ERR and shut off water (per GE Appliances support).
Verified from manufacturer doc Replaces XWF; contains an RFID leak-detect sensor
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Replaces | XWF (XWFE is backward-compatible; XWF does not work in XWFE fridges) |
| Non-GE filter | Fridge shows ERR and shuts off water |
| Bypass plug | WR17X33825 (RFID, no leak detect) |
Because of the RFID chip, generic filters without a GE tag will not dispense water in XWFE refrigerators, per GE.

Replace when the Filter Status light indicates 0% life
Read the part number printed on your current cartridge and match it exactly. Some fridges reject non-matching filters.
